Sober 29 years since 7/19/1970 in New Bern, NC, Mike is a very funny speaker and a close friend and prayer partner of Keith L, one of my all-time favorites in AA.
Mike has not had a drink since he came to his first meeting.
He has worked in the prison system in North Carolina with Tom I of Southern Pines, NC, another very positive force in AA.
Mike was raised in Wisconsin in a small Catholic family. His mother drank a bit and his father was a retired Marine.
His first drink was on Christmas as a young child to get him ready for bed. What he wanted was another and another.
He drank like a gentleman until he was twelve. He spent many nights reading the models off the basins of toilets.
He passed up a college football scholarship to go to the University of Missouri where he took three hours of everything and never got a degree.
He married a girl he met when she was dancing on a table because he got her pregnant.
In the early 60's he got a job in radio and was in the industry for 30 years. He only got fired for drinking once in his career in Oshkosh.
He and his wife were like needy kids with five kids of their own by the time he came into AA.
"I was not a good husband. I was not a good father because I was not there when I was there."
