Sober 38 years since 10/31/1978, this workshop is the first one I know where he tackled this topic specifically.
When he asked the committee what idiot picked this title for a workshop they told him it was one of the ones he included in an email to them!
He starts by quoting what is known as the "bedevilments" from the Big Book page 52:
"We were having trouble with personal relationships, we couldn't control our emotional natures, we were a prey to misery and depression, we couldn't make a living, we had a feeling of uselessness, we were full of fear, we were unhappy, we couldn't seem to be of real help to other people ..."
... and from the 12 and 12 page 53:
"But it is from our twisted relations with family, friends, and society at large that many of us have suffered the most. We have been especially stupid and stubborn about them. The primary fact that we fail to recognize is our total inability to form a true partnership with another human being. Our egomania digs two disastrous pitfalls. Either we insist upon dominating the people we know, or we depend upon them far too much."
This workshop is packed with one-liner insights from Bob's personal experience with these bedevilments in sobriety.
He observes that these areas apply as well, if not more so, to him in sobriety as they did when he was drinking.
