Soft spoken member of Al-Anon for over 10 years. Hated being in the program with a passion in the beginning. Her husband Jim is her qualifier. Was spiritually, physically and mentally dead and hated her self. Father was a bootlegger who drank so she wonders how he made any money. Violence was an everyday thing and love was absent. She was the 15th child in a large family. Remembers her dad trying to kill her mother. Vivian became like her father and mother - a state she never wanted. Repeatedly married and enabled alcoholics. Even tried to drink like them. Husband came back and stayed sober for a time and things were good until he went back to drinking. She attempted suicide. Her husband came into AA. Later, when her son ran away, she realized how her children hated her. She was at her lowest point. It made her look at herself and it started her on the road to recovery.
