(#938) Virgina M (Charlotte, NC)
Sept 1996 in Myrtle Beach, SC  EVENT: 25th Fellowship by the Sea  TYPE: Al-Anon, Female, Story

In Al-anon a long time, intentionally not giving her start date, a strong speaker with a solid message, Virginia got stuck with several others in an elevator at this conference and they had a good time - "when you got lemons, make lemonade."

Born on the Eastern shore of Maryland, around many potential alcoholics, they lost all and had to move to Pennsylvania during the depression. She was raised by her grandparents who both died when she was eleven. She became an orphan as ward of the state. She served herself so much self-pity from her circumstances that she will never need another bite the rest of her life.

She felt like a misfit. Alcoholics do not have a corner on that market. with an alcoholic is like standing up fishing in a small boat - you have to be ready for what comes.

She spends over half the talk walking through the steps.
