Sober since 1946, an insightful and often funny talk, Tom was a failure in AA for four years that he traces to a stubborn refusal to the "God Thing". This is a suggested program but if you want to get well you better take the suggestions. Standing in front of a crowd and bearing witness binds you to this program like nothing else can. Two key points: 1) Through the program he learned that everything on this earth makes sense - everything. 2) The Lord has been with us always. He was put in institutions 9 times. Early on he wanted to be not just one of the boys but one of the men. It was what got him started drinking and what became the bait to get him in AA and kept him here. God's Grace is something nobody understands. He came in and stayed dry without the God Thing for a time but then went out. For four years he was a chronic slipper, a miserable periodic.
