Sober 17 or so years since 1966 at age 42, Speedy was a gruff old bird who was not shy about interrupting someone at a meeting if he felt the need.
He helped many alcoholics get and stay sober.
I spoke with him for some 45 minutes a few years before he passed.
At the end I said, "You know what is neat about this Program? It needs people like you and people like me."
One person said, "We have a wrench for every nut that walks in the door."
