Sober 14 years since 7/29/1982 at age 52, Shirley speaks frequently with her Al-anon husband Bo T who spoke the day before at this event. Her parents divorced the day Shirley graduated from elementary school and moved in with her grandparents.
She got married and her father let her down at her wedding. She did not drink or have one in her hand until Bo bought her one at a dance after they already had children. It was a stimulant for her. She drank at home and did all her damage there. Bo took her to treatment and was required to come to a family week. Since then Shirley, Bo and their two children Mike and Cissy have been in recovery - AA, Al-anon and Alateen.
Mike was killed by a drunk driver some years before this talk. AA, Al-anon and Alateen showed up and stayed.
