Sober 20 years since 7/17/1996 at age 28, Sheldon, a naturally funny guy, manages to stay sober living in "Sin City" Las Vegas.
He was born in the north of England but his accent has worn off since he came to the states at age 16.
His parents are not alcoholic. His dad left them when Sheldon was six. They went from middle class Jewish to welfare.
His mother was often angry. She cleaned houses until she was 90 years old.
There was lots of fuel for resentments. He hated everybody. He started drinking and "nose puking" at age 9.
"I am disgustingly anti-social when I drink. I pee on the couch and hit on your mom."
He could talk himself into great jobs but could not keep them. Came into AA but leave in the middle of meetings to drink.
He finally decided to turn himself into those good folks in AA.
He ends with a touching story of forgiveness while his father lay dying.
