Sober 4 years since 11/9/2012, Sara grew up abused in a family with alcoholism on all sides.
She started abusing food at age 9. She drank alcoholically from the first drink at age 11.
By age 13 she asked her mom for help, went to treatment and stayed sober for a time until she moved to St. Simons Island, GA where she could not stand being the girl who didn't drink. She drank again.
A career, marriage or having two children would not fix her. She kept telling herself, "I got this."...but she didn't.
She drank and used during both pregnancies. The second child was born with a neurological disorder but she would not tell the doctors the truth of her using.
She divorced and remarried her husband.
She had a moment of clarity driving her children while drunk and came back into AA. Her husband did not see her behavior as a big deal often enabling her.
This past year has been very challenging but she stayed sober.
