Born in Baton Rogue, LA in 1961, the youngest and unplanned of four, his mother suffered from depression.
He became crystal clear in a pool room that he could not continue to drink and use - the messages of AA and NA had finally taken hold.
He spends much of the talk on his recovery.
He has not thought about suicide in three years.
He has had to work and put an effort at being sober and though, his life is better than it has ever been, he sometimes has bad weeks.
The whole goal is finding a power greater than him.
