(#2663) Pellham G (Ft. Paine, AL)
9/25-27/1964 in Augusta, GA  EVENT: 11th Georgia State Convention  TYPE: AA, Male, Story

Sober 16 years since 9/11/1948, Pelham has a great country sense of humor.

This is one of the funniest talks in the collection with a touching ending.

The sound quality is excellent.

"Somewhere, early in our lives, we must form a philosophy of life. And on the success of that philosophy it must contain three things: Faith, Hope and Charity. Without those three things, we sink into an abyss of degradation and despair from which few return and many don't."

He was raised by a family of doctors who were pioneers of a small town and county in Alabama and everyone was alcoholic except in those days they called them drunks.

He grew up with an abhorrence of alcohol. His mother died when he was nine. He went to High School at age 10.

He ran away with the Carnival soon after. It took two years for his father to find him.

"If there's anything that makes an alcoholic mad, it's to ask him where he's been when he doesn't know himself."
