(#247) Paul M (Riverside, IL)
Sep 2000 in Decatur, AL  EVENT: AL NW FL Area Convention  TYPE: AA, Male, Story, Historical

This is a MUST LISTEN. Very funny guy. Navy seaplane pilot in WWII and a one time professional wrestler, Paul was raised in a small town in Georgia. Sober 53 years since 8/15/1947, Paul spent time with Lois (who was a wrestling fan) and Bill W at their home in Bedford Hills, NY. Paul said, "I have never seen anybody get in trouble from working the 12 steps too soon...I have seen many, many get in trouble from working them too slow or not at all."

Going to meetings and not drinking does not treat alcoholism. Working the 12 steps treats alcoholism. Without the steps all we have is untreated alcoholism. An author by trade, Paul is an excellent, knowledgeable speaker with long experience. He spends much of his sharing on the steps and how he uses them in his life. He lives ALL the steps, not just 10, 11 and 12, going through them at least annually with emphasis on 4, 5, 8 and 9.
