Sober 5 years since 7/27/2010, Mike has embraced the Program.
Born and raised in the area where he lives still, sports was a driving part of his early years. Alcoholism is in his family. His mother died from the disease. He abandoned sports to pursue drinking.
He got to the point in his life where he had lost nearly all. His third wife divorced him, bankrupt, multiple DUI's in his past, a nine millimeter in his hand in his soon to be foreclosed bedroom with a little dog.
Instead of shooting, he found his copy of the Big Book on his dresser. He never read the book with the intent to quit drinking. That night he read the Doctor's Opinion, Bill's Story and page 25 where it says "there is no middle of the road solution".
He asked God to remove the obsession. He slept deeply for the first night in many. He awoke the next morning without the habitual obsession.
He came back into AA sincerely, got a sponsor some years younger and took the steps vigorously.
Having found Peace, he now carries his message of recovery to schools.
