(#2225) Matt W (Gig Harbor, WA)
9/2/2017 in Torrance, CA  EVENT: 33rd South Bay Family Roundup  TYPE: AA, Male, Story

Sober 24 years since 5/16/1993, Matt's parents were really good examples of how to be good parents.

Dad was boisterous Irish insurance salesman and mother was a quiet school teacher.

Older brother was a really bad alcoholic and as a result Matt did not want to drink.

Matt was Class President, dated the head cheerleader, played in a ripping Rock-n-Roll band but felt like he didn't have it together.

In Junior High he had his first drink and in eight years he could not, not drink.

It became clear that he was the problem, sitting across from his pregnant girlfriend who was way too young for him. He was 30 and she was 18. His mom was dying of cancer.

He had gotten kicked out of a Rock band for drinking which is a really hard thing to do.

In the end, he had pawned all his guitars.

He had car problems. He had a key but he did not know where the car was. That was the problem.

His now sober brother rescued him in the end.

Touching, funny, wonderful message of recovery.
