(#1894) Marie S (Los Angeles, CA)
7/20/1990 in Atlanta, GA  EVENT: 15th Atlanta Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 18 years since 1972 at age 22, passionate, Marie realizes that all she is doing is talking one drunk to another.

Marie was born in 1948 and raised on the Ft. Benning Army base outside Columbus, GA but later moved to Oklahoma.

"You're looking at somebody that needed an answer from the time she was a small child. Ever since I can remember I have been absolutely strangled by the manifestations of self...I threw myself away...I got mixed up being strong with being mean."

When she was 13, their house in Oklahoma burned down and they moved to Burbank, CA where there were lots of nuts and she loved it.

There she had her first drink and she never drank socially. She also shot heroin for nine years.

She wound up dying her death on those streets for nine years going in and out of institutions. They were more home than anything else.

"I believe my God wants no holes in my soul...that God will quench the secret desires of my heart even the ones unbeknownst to me."

At 9 years sober her sober husband went back out and she fought the obsession to drink while everyone gave him attention.

She was sponsored by Alabam C who told her - "The best is yet to come."
