There is alcoholism all through his family. He swore to his grandmother he would never drink. He made it through medical school, came back and drank it all away in 11 months. He also became drug dependent through his own prescriptions. He was taken to the hospital near death.
He shares how his sponsor took him through the steps of ego defaltion to a spiritual experience. He goes back through the steps about every three years.
