Funny, mild mannered and insightful, Lou grew up in a family full of alcoholics that stuck together in spite of their secrets. His relationship disease came from his mother's side. There was no God in their family. His dad was in the military and they moved alot.
In Wayco, TX at age 14, a crystal clear knowledge came out of nowhere - Lou was going to be a minister and he would never have children. He also discovered girls the same year.
Years later, Lou left the ministry because he did not change on the inside. He spent the next ten years of debauchery isolated from his family. He desperately hoped there was no God.
He met and became infatuated with an alcoholic. Together they built their life around alcohol - her drinking and he, mostly enabling (and backing completely over her accidently with a golf cart). She became desperately alcoholic and, after a time, he was ordered to go to Al-Anon.
She relapsed after five years. He took the advice of the program and practiced detachment, but with an axe not with love. It was the best contribution he ever made to her recovery. She is now 8 years sober and he has been freed from his deepest resentments.
Today he is his own qualifier - his thinker is broken.
