Sober 17 years since 11/7/1978, his wife of 38 years is in Al-Anon.
Larry loves to hear the stories of what it was like. He remembers when he came into AA, knowing from those stories that he was in the right place.
He was born into an alcoholic home in a rough part of Louisville known as Portland. He had nine brothers and four sisters and they were not even Catholic.
He remembers hiding under the bed while his dad chased his mother around the house with a butcher knife.
By 16, Larry was out of control with his own drinking.
"I was 23 years old and I had lost the ability to care about another human being and away I went to the penitentiary. Man, I got there and guess what? I got there and all my friends was there. Everybody from my old neighborhood was there. ..And I remember they said, 'Hey Larry, what took you so long?'"
How does a man get from there to a sober, responsible member of society?
