(#779) Kathy O (Huntington, WV)
5/24/2008 in Bloomington, MN  EVENT: 35th Gopher State Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 13 years since her first meeting on 8/12/1994, she calls herself "your token Appalachian American". Born in East Tennessee in 1952. Her father died when she was 7 years old. She goes through the litany of her selfishness. She was very popular in school - home coming queen - even though she didn't "put out" nor did she drink. She got a full scholarship to college and took 11 years to finish with an incomplete.

She worked as a janitor then a waitress. Then she took the test for the carpenters union and passed the test with the 3rd highest score. She was the first woman they had. She was drinking with the crews and found her current husband. They dated for 9 years and after they got married she let go any attempts to control her drinking.

Enjoy the happy ending ;->

Note she also chaired the AA International 2010 session "Celebrating Sobriety".
