(#1223) Karen E (Huntsville, AL)
8/16/1996 in Macon, GA  EVENT: 5th GCYPAA  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Karen was born to a very competitive family. Her dad was a coach. Nobody drank. She was the odd man out, the dreamer. She could never stick with anything.

She got married very early. She took her first drink after that at a wedding. She jumped in a pool they were not supposed to be in. Her husband had to carry her home. The marriage did not last.

She started working and playing hard, got bulimic, moved back home and met her second husband while working at a bar. Drinking, loneliness, depression, despair, anxiety attacks - all increased.

After the birth of her second child she became convinced she had a drinking problem.

She was at the jumping off place. She prayed, "Oh, God. I will do anything."

Within a few days she was in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous.
