(#4844) Karen S (Douglasville, GA)
8/17/2025 in Cartersville, GA  EVENT: 46th Allatoona Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 11 years since 11/29/2014 and passionate about AA, Karen brings the energy and flavor of her Louisiana upbringing.

She shares how this disease has recently touched her family in a tragic way.

In high school she was not part of a "click",

"but if you had alcohol we clicked."

A flight attendant for 35 years, she missed so many opportunities to see the world as she preferred to stay in her hotel room with a bottle.

Failed geographic cures, marriages, and attempts to quit, forced retirement from her airline job due to her drinking, brief excursions in AA - none of these worked until she wanted it and was willing to work the Steps.

"I drank up my career."

"There's alot of things that are more powerful than me."

"The most important words in Step 3 are 'Next we launched...'"

A sponsee after the third Step prayer said, "I don't feel anything."

Karen told her, "Well, you haven't done anything yet Boo."

Her stories around the 9th Step are right from the heart.

Thank you, Karen!
