Julia got sober in Georgia 26 years before this talk on 1/10/1985. She has been living in Lafayette since November 1999.
Soft spoken at first with a powerful story, it becomes evident, just by her great laugh, that she led a wild life before and after coming into the program.
Neither of her parents were alcoholic though her dad owned a liquor store in the metro Atlanta area. There is alcoholism in years previous and rampant suicide in the family - including her father three weeks before her 2nd birthday. Her mother had a giant brain tumor while Julie as a child was sleeping with her. Fear was an every consuming presence in Julia's life.
