(#1649) Judy P (Elijay, GA)
3/24/2013 in Marietta, GA  EVENT: 23rd Marietta Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 40 years since 12/18/1972, Judy does not make an attempt to clean up her story.

Judy listened when some suggested she clean up her story but she realized if she did, she wouldn't have a story.

She was raised in the typical alcoholic home where she never knew what was going to happen. Her stepfather was the alcoholic and was abusive mentally, physically and sexually. Judy being the youngest, caught the brunt of it from 9 years old to 16.

She prefers not to look at herself as a victim, though she was. She does not believe she had a choice. She needed to do what she needed to do to get over it.

He took her childhood but she is not going to let him take her adulthood as well.

Just before she got sober she tried to commit suicide. The next day her mother threw her out. That December, she finally ran out of places to spend the night.

"There was nobody that would take me in. I had burned up every relationship; used up every person in my life."

She asked her sister to call AA for her.
