Sober over 35 years since 11/4/1959, Johnnie says there is a difference between being sober and sobriety.
"Sober means to me, basically, that I don't have any alcohol or chemicals in my system ... physically sober. Living in sobriety is the ability to live peacefully and comfortably and joyously with me and you and God".
35 years before this talk he was crawling around on his hands and knees, naked in a padded cell. That is NOT where alcohol and drugs took him.
Alcohol and drugs kept him alive long enough until he could come into the rooms of AA and find sobriety.
He talks about the AA members who took the time to carry the message into that corrections facility so he could hear when he was finally ready.
