Sober 37 years since 2/23/1952, John was one of the first African American members of AA in Georgia.
I grew up in Atlanta and am inspired by how many AAs welcomed him with open arms.
It was not universal, but it seems to have been above and beyond the standards of the culture in the city at that time.
