(#1736) Jean P (Concord, NC)
8/16/2003 in Cartersville, GA  EVENT: 26th Allatoona Roundup  TYPE: Al-Anon, Female, Story

In Al-Anon for "a little over 20 years", Jean grew up in an alcoholic home.

It is said, make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Jean believes that means laughter. Each time we laugh about what it was like, we heal a little bit.

She was born in the small steel mill town of Newton Falls, OH where, her father swore, there were more bars than churches. All in the family worked hard and she became the lost child.

"My mom said I came out of my room when I was 15."

"Well I learned real quick what the rules in an alcoholic home were: you don't talk, you don't trust and you don't feel and another rule in my home was - you don't need anything."

She discovered books and reading and escaped into a fantasy world.
