Sober 21 years since 5/3/1981, a lively speaker she is a bit of a favorite of mine.
She is a Big Book thumper, real alcoholic and active member of her home group in Denver. She focuses on the first step and her relationship with God because this is a Spiritual Way of Life she was introduced to in AA.
Janis was raised in El Paso, TX in an alcoholic family.
Her dad was a doctor, her mother dropped dead of untreated alcoholism on the living room floor at age 47.
Janis was alcoholic from the first drink at age 15 at her sister's wedding where she tried to pick up the priest.
For 10 years she got up, took speed, worked hard, went to happy hour, took more speed to drink longer then took valium to get to sleep. She woke up the next morning and did it all again.
She never tried to quit drinking until she came into AA fully qualified at age 30.
