(#1650) Jane D (Tallahassee, FL)
5/4/2014 in Marietta, GA  EVENT: 24th Marietta Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 17 years since 9/24/1996, 51 years old, never married, no kids, Jane is an amazing story of how far alcoholism can take us down and how far AA can bring us back.

"I feel that Grace is ever-present with me....At moments like this I feel, too, that the Will of God will never take me where the Grace of God won't protect me."

She was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth. She was an All-American girl. Her dad was a world champion runner - very disciplined. In high school she began to rebel. That eventually led to a wild life in the Keys.

Our dark pasts can be the greatest assets that we have.

Jane was driving drunk in the early hours after a long night of partying with her boyfriend. They were in the Florida Keys on an abandoned bridge. They ran full speed, head-on into a concrete barrier. She awoke trapped in the car. He was dead beside her. Hours later a police car went out of their routine to check the bridge and saved her.

She found AA in prison.
