(#1080) Jane A (Kennesaw, GA)
4/9/2016 in Woodstock, GA  EVENT: HOW Place Saturday Night  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 19 years since 9/18/96, Jane moved to Georgia from Northern California in 2013 to be nearer her daughter.

Jane grew up in Denver, CO. She flunked out of college for not doing the work and moved back with Mom in Silicon Valley California in the 70's.

Jane got a job at first in insurance but with strong math and science she quickly got into high tech in the boom days.

She married and they had a daughter. In the end she was drinking a quart of vodka every two days. She and her husband argued.

A psychiatrist suggested her daughter was behaving like she was living in an alcoholic home. Jane was outraged and went home and drank.

The next week she came unwillingly into AA. She got a sponsor and fought her every step of the way.

She shares how she went from being a smothering mother in sobriety, shunned by her daughter to the person her daughter, now a nurse in an Alzheimer's ward, calls when she just needs someone to listen.

Delightful and insightful.

This is an update of the talk at the Breakfast Club Monthly Speaker 8/2/2014.
