Sober 22 years since 4/22/1974, Helen took early retirement from the GSO in New York shortly before this talk.
She does not like change and there has been lots of it recently.

Her family is riddled with alcoholism.
Born and raised in Chicago, she moved to New York City and stayed there until recently - though she thought often of running back to Chicago to escape the heat caused by her drinking.
She used to be serious - now she takes her sobriety seriously but the rest of it not so much.
