(#2549) Helen H (Melita, MB)
11/12-15/1992 in Ft Walton Beach, FL  EVENT: 24th Gulf Coast Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 22 years since 11/10/1970 when she boarded a plane in North Dakota to go to a treatment center.

Both her parents died by the time she was 12.

Though they were not alcoholics, their family was riddled with them.

She came into AA weighing 108 pounds.

"It was like somebody had lifted a weight off my shoulders. All of the sudden, you know, I was not alone anymore and there was something tangible wrong with me."

At 11 months, she got deeply involved in service when she met two Trustees from the General Service Board.

"They sold me a bill of goods that I think I have been buying ever since."

She became Delegate and later Trustee at Large for Canada.

She closes with a discussion about the Promises.

"Happiness is like a butterfly. The more you pursue it, the more it will elude you but if you stand quietly and let it happen, it will come and sit on your shoulder."
