(#1092) Francine W (Los Angeles, CA)
4/7/1995 in Marietta, GA  EVENT: 5th Marietta Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

"Esteemable" Acts

Sober 15 years since and originally from Atlanta, last time she was in the Metro Area was 12 years ago when her grandmother was dying. Francine was 4 years sober and able to make amends to her before she died.

Her story is one about growth, walking through fear and changing inside AA.

She came into AA in Las Vegas, NV in a full body cast with an attitude and no high school degree.

She got a sponsor who taught her to act and speak like a lady.

She told her, "You get self-esteem by doing esteemable acts".

Francine has recently written a book by that title describing how she went from no GED to taking and passing the bar in New York.

There were even more achievements after this talk.

This was the first talk I heard of Francine.

She touched me then and I hold a special place for her among the speakers on WeJoy.
