Evelyn was born and bred in Harlem and loved everything about it - the shootings, danger, the characters. She does not drink or sniff cocaine today because she does not want the consequences that come with it. She loved all of it except the consequences.
Her parents never drank. First her father and then her mother died of natural causes when Evelyn was age 11.
She started drinking at 12 and immediately began lying about it even to her best friend.
She drank in bars seeking out the three and four for one joints. She would start fights.
Repeated hospitalizations at Bellevue did not stop her. There were no detox centers.
