Sober 1 year since 6/15/2023, Emily stayed sober on her own for a year, even buying her own medallion.
She had been to AA but believed it was not for her because she was not really an alcoholic - she thought she drank because of all the things happening to her.
But some months ago, she decided she wanted to tell her story in AA.
She came back, got a sponsor who started reading the book with her - but not asking her to speak.
Recovery started coming to her, and at this event, the scheduled speaker could not make it and, unbeknownst to the chairperson about her wish, Emily was asked to be the substitute.
If you're new in AA, get used to these "coincidences" happening fairly regularly.
