(#1838) Elliot K (Acworth, GA)
7/1/2017 in Woodstock, GA  EVENT: HOW Saturday Night Speaker  TYPE: AA, Male, Story

Sober 3 years since 12/10/2013, a young member, Elliot has no excuse for becoming alcoholic. He grew up with good, loving, educated, Christian parents. He was involved in sports but he was always looking for something.

"My go to reaction from high school through college up until coming into Alcoholics Anonymous was to flip it ...to go off the edge, to kamikaze into life....I basically wanted other people to take care of me...Super scared."

The quality of the people he was hanging out with deteriorated.

"I didn't want to get drunk all the time. I just wanted to get right."

A trained health care professional, he blew that opportunity as he did others. He was living at home with his parents.

"I was a designer one month; a car salesman the next."

He came to AA when nothing was working anymore.

He went through five sponsors his first year because he liked the "idea" of sobriety but was not willing to do the work. He was untreated.

He met his current sponsor and went into "catastrophe control" mode.
