Sober since 8/31/1961, Don is a fast and lively speaker. He grew up in a neighborhood of gangsters. He said AA is like the mafia - if you leave here your dead.

He did not drink as a teenager. Joined the army at 18 and only drank once during his time in the service blacked out and woke up only to find he was married. His character defect was he did not like to take orders. Had 15 summary court-marshals and wound up in United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth, KS.He left the army with a dishonorable discharge. He became a famous hair stylist. The money started flowing and he started drinking.

He ended up in Rosary Hall under the care of Sister Ignatia in Cleveland OH. His wife and kids were gone, he hated God and was having trouble facing the real world sober. He then describes his journey in the program.
