Sober some 24 years since 9/15/1965 at age 33. 57 at the time of this talk, Dick and his wife Peggy are some of the most active members of AA anywhere.
This is the first time I have added his story by itself online.
Born in Asheville, NC, he was in the Air Force until his father died as the result of a drunken fall down the basement steps.
A doctor told Dick he was not ready for AA in April of 1965.
He came into AA in Washington, DC four months later.
His first meeting was in Silvertown, MD.
He went because he had no other option.
It was a meeting that showed a film about Circles of Service and he was mesmerized thinking, as a businessman, there is no way this could work.
He was not encouraged to read the Big Book as it was out of favor on the East Coast at that time.
He spends the last part going over key aspects of the Program of AA and finishes explaining the 12th Tradition in Long From as he understands it.
