(#165) Cricket R (Ft. Worth, TX)
5/4/2003 in Marietta, GA  EVENT: 13th Marietta Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 33 years since 10/19/1969, Cricket shares a powerful story of recovery.

She grew up following the crops with her family.

She spent time in the middle 1950's at 16 years old in a mental institution in Pueblo Colorado. This was a time when they used heavy drugs and electric shock therapy three times a week. She learned how to survive on the streets.

She was challenged to come into AA. She went through the DT's in the rooms, turned tables over, and stole money and equipment from AA.

Confronted by the men of AA, she was told the AA's traditions would not allow them to kick her out but they escorted her in and out of meetings.

The law kicked her out of Denver and she settled in Ft. Worth, TX. Later there she found AA, sobriety, love, sanity and serenity.
