(#2724) Cindi S (Canton, GA)
1/29/2020 in Holly Springs, GA  EVENT: Stepping Stones Monthly Speaker  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 8 years since 11/16/2011, Cindi is from a small town in Pennsylvania.

Neither her mother or step-father were active alcoholic.

She moved to Atlanta shortly after high school, met her husband, and had two children.

He was a binge drinker with three DUI's but always managed to get off.

They would both quit drinking and she even went to Al-Anon. But they would always start back up and it was full-on-out.

In July 1995, he was involved in a vehicular homicide, was convicted and served 12 years in prison, yet today still thinks he can drink.

Cindi was guilt ridden and turned to Al-Anon for help. But she also started to drink to cover up her guilt.

Her drinking started to spiral, working multiple jobs, leaving her kids at home and she got her first DUI and then another.

She entered a stringent DUI court Program in a major state of denial - comparing not identifying in the beginning.

Then she began to identify,

"How can I be doing the same thing my husband had done?"
