Sober 11 years since 1993 and a DCM at the time of this talk, Charlie was a down home country boy who could weld anything.
One time at a meeting I was in, an old timer said, "Just don't drink and go to meetings." Charlie shared later, "That's like telling a homeless man to just buy a house."
He was a Vietnam vet who knew he could not stop drinking. When the time was right, his wife gave him a copy of the Big Book she had been saving for a couple of years.
This is a powerful, often funny story of fogiveness and many miracles of recovery.
Charlie died sober at age 63 on 1/23/2013 under Hospice care in his home surrounded by friends.
Job well done Charlie.
