AA PIONEER IN BROOKLYN
In AA 40 years since 2/7/1936, without a drink since 1/5/1934 on just the Bible and encouragement from the U.S. Navy, Charlie was among the first 25 drunks to get and stay sober in the organization that became AA.
He started in Brooklyn, NY in a meeting where there were four men and one woman.
Hank (Henry) Parkhurst, who wrote the chapter "To Employers" in the Big Book, was the speaker at that meeting.
Later, one man and the woman decided to "take up housekeeping". Charlie never saw them again, and then there were four Brooklyn members.
Starting in December 1926, he met Dr Bob in Akron, and would return there almost monthly.
