(#2122) Carolyn H (Woodstock, GA)
2/3/2018 in Woodstock, GA  EVENT: Breakfast Club Monthly Speaker  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 5 years since 2/23/2012 (OK, almost 6 years), Carolyn came into the Program with a gift of willingness.

She just got back from a business trip to Las Vegas sober.

All resistance to the idea that she was an alcoholic and could not quit on her own had been removed before she came to her first meeting.

She came to that meeting after calling the Atlanta Intergroup Hotline.

She was married at eighteen and had two children by her early 20's.

Her first husband dampened the fires of her alcoholism until the kids were not needing her as much.

She left him after 23 years one night when she wanted to go out and he did not.

On her own for the first time in her life, she was terrified of paying bills.

She met her current husband in a bar in Sandy Springs and knew she wanted to be with him but had to do something about her drinking.

She was told she just needed to know "WHEN" to quit.

She realized she did not know "HOW" to quit.

Then she shares a wonderful story of a gentle sponsor and a fourth step taken with sincerity and purpose.

Powerful.

Thank you Carolyn for walking through your fears.
