(#2829) Carolyn H (Woodstock, GA)
3/5/2022 in Woodstock, GA  EVENT: Breakfast Club Monthly Speaker  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Sober 10 years since 2/23/2012, Carolyn's dad died in a motorcycle accident at age 27 when she was 6.

She grew up sad and alone and allowed herself to be dominated by her first husband she married at age 18.

He took care of all the finances and kept close tabs on her for 23 years - some good times, some volatile with both drinking and using other substances.

She got drunk enough to make the decision to leave him some time before she came into AA but continued to go out, drink and black-out nightly.

She never got arrested but had been involved in numerous accidents.

Her desperation reached the point where she called the AA hotline and was directed to the 8111 Club in Sandy Springs, GA.

In sobriety she had to learn how to take care of and have confidence in herself.

Her story of reliance on the tools of the Program and forgiveness for her childhood abuser is powerful.

Thank you, Carolyn.
