A member of Al-Anon and the son of AA co-founder, Dr. Bob S, "Smitty" shares what he remembers as the last one alive who was at the historic first meeting between his father and Bill W in Henrietta Seiberling's home in Akron, OH Mother's Day 1935.
Smitty had recently married a local therapist named Mona. His first wife Betty died four years earlier around 1998.
An obit I found said:
"Bob was married twice, and had two children with his first wife, whom he lost around 1998. In 2002 he married a Memphis recovering alcoholic (decades of sobriety) who now runs a retreat-coordinating organization for persons in recovery. "
Smitty died of congestive heart failure at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN about 5 o'clock Thursday evening, April 22, 2004, five months after this talk.
