(#875) Bill C (Greensboro, NC)
8/15/2009 in Cartersville, GA  EVENT: 32nd Allatoona Roundup  TYPE: AA, Male, Story

Sober 42 years since 6/2/1967 and married 50, Bill is a funny and powerful speaker. He has a desire to stop drinking that no one could give him and a gift from God that removed the obsession. Bill believes alcoholism is a "primary" disease. It is not caused by anything else.

Bill made his living for over 25 years in the field of alcoholism and other addictions.

He was raised in an alcoholic Baptist home. What he learned at his mother's knee, he was reminded of when he came into AA. His father was a quiet, gentle drunk but they still had the embarrassment. He grew up before ritalin. He came up in the age of "paddlin". He grew up in the cool cat era. His social drinking ended at age 15 and a half.

He is among the 10% for whom alcohol does something special. Which means nine out of ten people waste alcohol.

His wife came into Al-Anon before he got sober. It didn't get get him sober ..." but it did break my rhythm!"
