Sober since 9/25/1977, Ben is best known for portraying Cooter on the TV show Dukes of Hazard and as a two term Georgia Congressman winning elections in 1988 and 1990. All of this he did as a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Only a year before he began his role as Cooter, he awoke with the DTs all alone under a wicker sofa in his Atlanta home - wife gone and out of money. He remembered just the look in the eye of an old drinking buddy whom he sensed had quit. He called the friend who helped him detox at the NABA Club in Atlanta. He has never had a drink sense. An excellent talk about the power tapped into through the program.
