Raised in N.E. Iowa, she never had a drink and neither did her sister.
She married a Lutheran seminary student
Barbara says,
"I'm one of those who thinks a story starts with 'Once upon a time..' and ends with 'got married and lived happily ever after'. And I found out that isn't so. People get married and get happy once in a while and that's whether there is alcoholism or not."
When she first came to Al-Anon. she was too good for the Program, and, thus, the Program didn't do her any good.
She takes us on a walk through the Steps - her first impression of them and what they mean to her now.
