(#674) Annah P (Katonah, NY)
3/16/2012 in Marietta, GA  EVENT: 22nd Marietta Roundup  TYPE: AA, Female, Story

Ten years sober since 8/29/2001, at the time of the talk Annah was Director of Stepping Stones (Bill and Lois Wilson's home in Bedford Hills, NY). Most of the time she is asked to speak about Stepping Stones but here she tells her story.

Her dad was in AA and she did not want to come into the program. Born in Connecticut from a fairly normal family, she always had a weird fascination with alcohol. She did like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain.

Her dad got sober when she was 15 and is still sober. AA often took him away from the family and did not leave a good impression on her. By 19 she was a troublemaker and daily drinker. She was OK that she was alcoholic. She got sober at 30. In between she tried to find the sweet spot between getting high and getting sick. When alcohol stopped working, she became a flaming cocaine addict three years before going to rehab and coming into the program.

She did not lose anything from her alcoholism but rather never got anything because of her spiritual illness. She never felt a part of until she joined AA.
