Sober 41 years since 2/15/1981, Allen grew up in Decatur, AL in a non-drinking family.
He started drinking as a freshman going to a track meet.
Before long he was doing PHP and alcohol, running with a rough crowd, while his parents are dragging him to church,
He got locked into a treatment center for 6 months at 17 years old, put on Thorazine which was like:
"The TV was on, but nothing is playing."
His parents did not know about his drug and alcohol use. He lied about everything,
At 19 he was locked out of society after insisting on taking the stand at his own trial. He was put into the insane asylum for what could have been for life.
He went into DTs in the asylum and came out with a moment of clarity.
He got down on his knees and asked God for help.
The next day he was given the chance to go to an AA meeting even though he was not diagnosed alcoholic.
He got a sponsor the next day.
His sponsor was allowed to take him outside to meetings.
Finally, he asked to be taken off all drugs on 2/15/1981 and has not ingested alcohol or any mind-altering chemical since.
