Sober 14 years since October 29, 1969, Charlie was a legend in AA with his "Big Book Comes Alive" weekend events held all over the country and probably outside the USA as well. The last events were in the early 2000's.
He had two fellow members help him conduct the weekend workshops - both were named Joe. So they were known collectively as "Joe and Charlie".
Here Charlie shifts gears and tells his own story first explaining about his home town in the far northeast corner of Arkansas on the Oklahoma border. In fact, his home was in Oklahoma and he did his banking in Missouri.
He tried going to one meeting a week and doing it on his own for maybe over a year.
Finally, alcohol had "beat me in a fair fight." He came in and started following the suggestions as outlined in the Big Book.
Charlie died sober Thursday, April 21, 2011 - 41 years sober and 82 years old.
